DA CONTEMPORANEIDADE DO REI UBU


Ubu Roi is a bizarre and comic retelling of Shakespeare’s MacBeth: Pere Ubu, an oafish, barely ranking civil servant is persuaded by his shrewish wife to kill the king of Poland and usurp the throne. Pere Ubu is magnificently stupid and appallingly unfit to rule anything, so his eventual ascension is a farce. He becomes a violent and incompetent dictator who kills his subjects, destroys the economy, and makes war arbitrarily.

What started as a schoolboy joke became a revolution in theatre when Ubu Roi premiered in 1896. The story goes that at the Paris opening, the uttering of its first word (a mispronunciation of the word “merde”) incited riots as the play assaulted all that the theatre and its community of aristocratic patrons had held sacred. That night a new form of comedy was born, and unleashed on the world was the monstrous Pere Ubu, a personification of all that is base within us.

O rei Ubu tem sucessivas reencarnações em diferentes países (sempre como funcionário público): neste momento encarnou em 1.124.567 funcionários da UE.
O seu corpo de larva bem nutrida depositada sobre corpos em apetitoso estado de putrefacção indica claramente o ideal burguês do corpo: hipernutrido. Mas tal como há fausses-maigres, que são afinal gordas, há faux-Ubus que são gordos também, se não no corpo, na alma e nas sensações. Um Alma Gorda por exemplo é o chefe de todos os funcionários portugueses, o inefável Sócrates. É um Ubu magro em versão cyborg. Com efeito a tendência dos maquinismos é repetirem-se uns aos outros o mais possível. O ideal de uma máquina é fazer mais máquinas semelhantes. Assim o cyborg com voz de falsete Ubu-Só (o nosso) que comanda um exército de fazedores de cimento e de praias com ondas artificiais (Promessa do Ubu-Costa, supremo funcionário da Edilidade Lisboeta para a zona ribeirinha de Lisboa, que em breve será imitada por todos os clones-autarcas do país, na política de salutar unanimismo que nos caracteriza) tal como seu bisavô Ubu-Roi vai-nos levar à guerra com os muçulumanos da Bulménia, e da Romanha.
