Desta vez a coisa era forte: ia pedir emprego a uma agência que pretendia examinadores de candidatos de emprego. Fui lá penteado por M.Savutti, o cabeleireiro unisexo da moda. Vestido por Brian Christie, London. Uma camisa de seda pura, com botões de punho. Uma gravata do Picadilly. Perfumado por Chanel pour homme. Levava uns sapatos ingleses, clássicos. Escondi a tatuagem do pulso com o sinal mágico de Astaroth, a deusa do Eros fenício, com um penso. O piercing na orelha foi camuflado com um mini adesivo cor de pele posto por um tipo amigo da televisão.

A entrevista estava a correr muito bem quando o entrevistador perguntou: Você está a responder a tudo muito bem e a sua aparência é como a de Zeuxis ou Van Dick, sabe, o dandy essencial...mas noto agora uma coisa que falta. E a sua cabeça?

Lancei as mãos à cabeça. E fiquei imediatamente apavorado, não estava lá nada: tinha-me esquecido da cabeça em casa, debaixo da almofada.

O meu entrevistador riu à gargalhada. Depois sem me dizer nada desatarrachou a própria cabeça com muita elegância e atirou-a para o chão, onde caiu e se quebrou.

De lá de dentro saíram centenas de entrevistadores.




A man considers going to a job interview. The interviewee has already learned statistics and utility theory in college and performed well in the exams. Considering whether to take the interview, he tries to calculate the probability he will get the job versus the cost of the time spent. The young job seeker here forgets that real life is more complex than the theory of statistics. Even with a low probability of success, a really good job may be worth taking the interview. Will he enjoy the process of the interview? What strategic value might he win or lose in the process? Even the statistics of the job business are non-linear. What other jobs can come in the man's way by meeting the interviewer? May there be a possibility of a very high payoff in this company that he has not thought of?
